    You’ve Got What It Takes!

So I’m here at The CrossFit Games Regionals, to cheer on a few of my coaches who are competing, and I am absolutely inspired by these incredible athletes.  I was checking out some Reebok gear in between heats, and there I was pushing a sled. Ha!

I was glad to see this picture, as I needed to be reminded that we are always a work in progress. Here in this photo, I was feeling my best. Strong and capable. Because of a lot of work travel and a minor injury, I haven’t been able to train as often as I would like, and my eating has not been on point (understatement! yikes!) Look, sometimes we feel on our A-Game and other times, anything but our best. That is ok! In fact, that’s the beauty of life!

Need some motivation? Start with an attitude of gratitude. Love yourself right this moment exactly how you are. Then surround yourself with those who make you want to be better. Silence all the noise (even the noise from your own mind!), and tune-IN  all the positivity. You have everything you need to be your best! And remember, it’s about progress, not perfection.

    Paleo Passover!

I am pumped to bring my Paleo Chocolate Cake Bites topped with my homemade Fit To Feast vanilla frosting over to my Passover seder tonight, because these grain-free badboys are naturally kosher for Passover. Thank you Paleoful, for letting me be one of the first to test out your newest Paleo baking mix! If you are keeping kosher for Passover this week or you just want to ditch the dairy and grains, here’s a sweet recipe for your sweet tooth.

Here’s what you need for the cake:

    • One pouch of Paleoful’s chocolate cake mix
    • 3 large eggs
    • 1/2 cup coconut  oil
    • 2 tsp vanilla
    • 1/4 cup + 2 TB of unsweetened vanilla almond milk

    Directions for cake:

    • Preheat oven to 350° and grease 8 inch cake pan.
    • Combine all ingredients and bake for 30 minutes
    • Cool completely before frosting

Here’s what I used for my vanilla frosting:

    • 1 cup palm shortening
    • 1/4 cup raw honey
    • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
    • 2 Tsp vanilla
    • 4 Tbsp arrowroot powder
    • 4 Tbsp coconut flour
    • 4 Tbsp coconut oil, melted
    • 1/4 tsp sea salt

    Directions for frosting:

    • In a mixing bowl, combine everything except melted coconut oil
    • Blend with a hand mixer until everything is well mixed
    • Slowly drizzle coconut oil in while mixing on high and then mix everything together

Enjoy and feel proud about your Paleo prowess!

    Take Time To Reflect

Today marks exactly three years that I have been living in Los Angeles, and what a life-changing journey it has been. New York will always be my home and heart & soul, but LA has challenged me in ways that have quickly made this city a beloved fierce force as well 😉 I moved to LA right after hosting music competition show, The Next, on The CW. I moved here with a hyper-focused career plan, but learned very quickly that no matter how efficiently and diligently you work and how strategically you position yourself to receive opportunity, you are not always rewarded with an ascending trajectory in the path you initially envisioned. Sometimes you have to detour, create an alternative path, and even recreate yourself. You need to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. You need to pursue other passions, other possibilities, other opportunities that you originate yourself, while simultaneously striving for and fine-tuning your initial vision.

You must always keep your eye on the prize, but you must also realize that the prize may also be the journey itself. It is possible you will conquer new dreams that have manifested BECAUSE of this unexpected path, and that new opportunities will actually find YOU. This is exactly what LA has been for me, and I am the happiest and most fulfilled I have ever been.

Start each day with an attitude of gratitude. Let your passion wake you every morning, guide you, and excite you. Want something so intensely that just the thought of pursuing it makes you feel alive. Recognize and savor every small win, and thank anyone and everyone who inspired you or helped you achieve it. Most importantly appreciate yourself, and what you have accomplished each and every day. Make others feel incredible about themselves and be good to you. Be the best possible version of yourself. You deserve it.  Eat Up Life….and pizza and Italian Heros, only when you’re back home in NY 😉

    Happy Pi(e) Day 3/14

#HappyPiDay! As a math nerd, I fully understand that 3/14 refers to the beloved mathematical constant Pi π. That being said, I welcome any excuse to also celebrate the more delicious homophone, pie…and to proudly boast my original #FitToFeast paleo pumpkin pies.

I’m heading to Austin where I’ll be rocking #SXSW all week. Who/where in #Austin has the best pie? Be a sweetie pie and comment below 😉
